Pronouns

August 30th, 2008 by Janene

Lately I have looked at quite a few pictures on Facebook and I am finding that a lot of people are labeling their pictures incorrectly and it is driving me nuts!

For example, I find people using the subjective pronoun “I” when they should be using the objective pronoun “me”. So I see pictures labeled “Joey and I” when it should be labeled “Joey and ME

It’s not really a big deal but for some reason it bothers me. Does it bother anybody else?

I am right there with you. People are just so afraid to use the word “me” because they’ve been told it was wrong in so many contexts (like me and Janene are going to…). I took a grammars class my last semester of school with a bunch of people about to graduate and become teachers and was astounded at the trouble most of them had with the class–and these are the people who will be teaching my children?

I am SOOOO with you! We have been working on that with my oldest daughter. My younger one has no problem with the concept. I don’t know why. But, yeah, it drives me NUTS! It’s simple! You always put the other person first, and then you pretend the other person is not there! You wouldn’t say “Me is going to the movies…” But you also wouldn’t say “This is I in front of the Eiffel Tower!”
